THE ROLE OF PEDPA AS A UNION BODY FOR E-HAILIN DRIVER COMMUNITY

It is a known fact across the globe that the role Union body plays in every organization can never be overemphasized. In every organized setting, the Union is always fighting for the collective interest of members of the organization.

This includes ensuring that the welfare of members are adequately cared for.

The need for the e-hailing drivers community to have an active Union body is long overdue. Many benefits meant for the e-hailing sector has never gotten to members simply because the sector is not organized.

With the emergence of PEDPA, the sector is beginning to shape. Over time, PEDPA has projected the sector in a good light thus attracting the attention of the State government, Federal government as well as international Union body precisely in the USA.

More can be achieved through the power of Unity! The sooner we fall to formation of unity, the faster we organize the sector and start enjoying the social welfare meant for us.

Below are questions that many well meaning members has been demanding answers to:

👉 WHY SHOULD UNION PARTNER WITH APP COMPANY?

As E-hailing Drivers or Lease Partners, we cannot function as E-hailing drivers or lease partners without partnering with app companies. Because we owned the services that they are selling to the consumers known as riders. As such, we must have a contractual obligation towards the Business Process Service Unit of the App Companies.

For example, we partnered with Uber/bolt individually and when policies or decisions that were highly inimical to our collective interest were made without our prior notice. We can’t come together as union to resist or to condemn such hash decisions as community, because we agreed to their terms and conditions that we can only partner with them as an individual, not as a Union.

To stem this ugly trend,we need to change initial narrative by way of partnering with app companies as a union and not as individuals anymore.

The example is mykab. Because we partnered with mykab as a body, we were able to negotiate well for all the drivers that will work and rendered service under Mykab platform

1• we were able to create two price module on MYKAB. (SOCIAL PRICE)& (CLASSIC PRICE)

The social price is #70 per kilometer ,#10 per minute ,#500 base fare and #1000 minimum fare.

Classic price is #100 per kilometer,#10 per minute ,#500 base fare and #1000 minimum fare

2• We were able to negotiate the commission to 15% of which 5% out of the 15% was set aside for drivers welfare such as follow:

1• Health Management Organization (HMO)

2• Soft loan, mainly for our car maintenance

3• Car loan

4• Real estate plan or pension plan

It’s only a Union that can work out this benefits for the welfare of drivers.

The only solution to check the excesses of any app companies is to partner with them as union and we can’t have unity forum without Union. Hence we have PEDPA as a United body of E-hailing drivers and PRIVATE-OWNERS (lease partners).
