The Professional E-hailing Drivers and
Private Owners Association,
(PEDPA)
Nigeria.
To The Entire E-hailing
Drivers Community,
Nigeria.
Dear Comrades,
RE: FILLING A COURT CASE AGAINST UBER AND BOLT FOR UNJUSTIFIABLY BLOCKING OF DRIVERS’ ACCOUNTS, AND INJUCTIVE REMEDY TO ALL AFFECTED DRIVERS.
Fraternal greetings to the entire E-hailing Drivers in Nigeria.
As the National President of Professional E-hailing Drivers and Private Owners Association (PEDPA), I cannot help but commend the entire driver community for our doggedness and high level of resilience in putting up with the shenanigans by known App Companies, UBER and BOLT over the years.
The high level of irregularities by the App companies has badly affected the E-hailing transportation sector in Nigeria bringing it several years backward in terms of professional service delivery rather than a progressive movement towards success!
This ugly trend has really hit hardworking drivers who have deployed their cars, assets worth well over 2 million naira, thus leaving us highly impoverished!
In every civilised clan, anyone rendering a service SHOULD have a contractual right and obligation to fix the prices for his goods or the services. But sadly, UBER/BOLT have not only fixed the price for our services, they also fix a humongous commission for themselves at the detriment of the direct Service Providers who are the drivers.
Moreover, because they have the financial muscle to throw bonuses to attract more riders to their platforms, Uber and Bolt as a result of this prize tussle keep reducing the prices of fares not minding the harsh economic effects this is having on drivers who have subscribed to their platforms
Because of the alarming rate of unemployment in the country, many more are joining the e-hailing industry as a means to earn a decent living. That is why they keep blocking drivers account unjustifiably without any fair hearing especially the older drivers account on their platforms. This development has resulted in many drivers loosing their cars on HP and being frustrated out of business. Many have also lost their lives while others have suffered permanent disability in the line of duty without any compensation to the affected drivers nor to the family of the deceased.
In view of the above, PEDPA has since inception taken the center stage to redress this ugly trend.
As a gentle reminder, several communique has been sent to them to dialogue and come to terms with the drivers demands. But all have proved abortive. The most recent was the last strike action, which really hit them hard and forced Uber to take steps towards increasing the fare a bit higher even though that was not our expectation.
THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS!
In a bid to end this shenanigan by UBER/BOLT, PEDPA had by it’s affiliate with International Labour Organization (ILO), Organization of Trade Union of West Africa (OTUWA) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) solicited full support for the E-hailing drivers in Nigeria. I am glad to inform us that we now have the unwavering backing of these bodies.
Going forward, they shall be working with PEDPA’s legal Unit to activate a court case against UBER and BOLT and this would be adequately funded to ensure the drivers get justice in all ramifications.
In view of the foregoing, as required by our legal Unit, a Google sheet has been designed to capture our cases with evidences. We therefore call on all drivers who have been affected in the following areas to present their case using the Google Sheet Link herein without delay.
? ACCOUNT DEACTIVATION WITHOUT FAIR HEARING!
▪️ All those whose accounts on Uber or Bolt have been blocked unjustifiably should immediately fill out the form correctly and submit as soon as possible.
▪️ All those whose accounts were blocked for exercising their fundamental rights to protest during the strike should also fill the form and give detailed comment in the section provided.
? PERMANENT DISABILITY/DEATH WHICH OCCURRED WHILE ON ACTIVE TRIP.
▪️ This includes all the drivers who got disabled or died on active trip, leaving behind dependants and were not compensated in anyway by UBERBOLT.
NOTE: Please be informed that herein is a link to open the Google Sheet where you will supply all the details needed to file a case for you. And should PEDPA win this case for the drivers, those affected will be duly compensated by the App Companies.
Equally noteworthy is the fact that all this cases will be funded by ILO. So we don’t have to worry about how to raise money to start a case!
Conclusively, we are appealing to the entire driver community conscience to join hands with PEDPA as we fight our common enemy. There are ongoing conversations across all the LGA’s in Lagos, Ogun, Abuja, Porthacourt, Oyo, Edo and Ekiti state on how to better this industry. Please feel free to join and lend your voice so that together we all can stamp our footprint in the history of positive change in the E-hailing industry in Nigeria.
Please accept our love and greetings in the spirit of ONENESS and COMRADESHIP.
Yours faithfully,
✍️ COMRADE IDRIS OLUWASEUN SHONUGA.
